Consultations:
I offer private consultations to anyone who is planning on going to the Khumbu region in Nepal. There are many things I can tell you that you wouldn't have even thought of yourself if you haven't been there before. I remember when I first went to the Khumbu region, for example, and I packed my tee shirts and such. My friend who had been there before came over to my house and started to toss out the clothes that I should not take... leaving me with most of my backpack empty. There are clothes (along with gear and food) that one would find of value to have and other things were just dead weight. Or left behind.
This is what I offer:
I offer either private phone conversations where we can talk or getting together if you are in the Bay Area. This way we can cover any questions and I will pass on ideas from my experience along with the places to go, people to know and what to do there in Nepal. My charge is $250.00 (proceeds go to a Nepal fund) or that you take a duffle of 25lbs for me to Nepal. Leaving the goods at the hotel you stay in while in Kathmandu is suffice as I have arrangements for any international deliveries. In general, many trekkers take something to the people of Nepal...whether it be clothes or trekking supplies, medical supplies, school supplies, money or anything that can be done to help these wonderful people. Every year I have taken just an extra duffle of medical supplies, clothes or other needed items. I have also delivered oral hygiene kits to the doctors in Kathmandu that donate their time to fix cleft lips and other oral problems the children have but cannot afford to get an operation. For me its not a big deal to take these supplies and just have them picked up at my hotel. One duffle year after year adds up. Even the smallest gesture goes a long way for these people who have very little compared to most.
I also send you (either PDF file or email) your visa forms, list of medications you'll need to take with you and what gear to take to trek the Khumbu region, plus, my private email and cell phone number to stay in touch before your trek just in case any questions or concerns come up. I will be in contact with you up until you leave for Nepal and even while you are there via email or Messenger. And hopefully when you return you will share your experiences with me. For all your needs there, I will have you go to the people/friends who I go to for lodging in Kathmandu and in the Khumbu region for all your trekking needs from the beginning until the end of your journey.
