Hello, my name is Kathy Kapps. I have been to Nepal many times and have had different and wonderful experiences each time I have traveled there. One time I stayed for almost two years getting to know the people and the country. Back at home I have been doing Zen Shiatsu for almost thirty years (since 1984) and I am a teacher, practitioner and writer of the Zen Shiatsu Routine manual along with privately mentoring Zen Shiatsu students. Along with having my wonderful career in the healing arts, for years now I have been helping people plan their treks to Nepal. After doing this for so many people I have seen how my input has made a huge difference on a person's experience there while trekking. Especially at high altitude. This is how this consultation business was born...out of the need for someone here in the USA to help direct you on your travels to Nepal. It can be daunting but it need not be.
My journey started many years ago after working in the medical field and then traveling to (and living in) Nepal where I had my first massage, my first acupuncture treatment and I tried other alternative therapies. I was exposed to Auyvedic medicine along with meditation, prayers and laying of hands. During that time I went on many treks to the Annapurna region and was also connected with the Sherpas in Kathmandu. I lived amongst them and was a part of the community of friends. After returning to the States, I had a keen interest in the acupressure points and had valid results when working on many friends so I then enrolled in the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California to learn how to become an acupressurist. I was fortunate to be privately mentored by the late Zen Shiatsu Master Ping Lee after studying at the school. He taught me the Zen Shiatsu routine as developed by Shizuto Masunaga. There is where I found my life's work...or in other words, my calling.
In 1984 I began my practice at the San Francisco Chiropractic Clinic with Dr. Gary Miller, a renowned chiropractor in his field. After ten years I moved to the Ultimate Sports Medicine Clinic with Dr. Leonard Stein and Dr. Allen Wood. At the same time I opened another office in San Rafael, California with Lise Nieman, Esthetician. I still am currently in both offices and proud to work alongside some of the best in their field. I also teach at two schools of massage in the Bay Area and privately mentor Zen Shiatsu students.
I originally got a BS degree from Eastern Michigan University. As I began my career in the traditional medical field I also headed from Michigan towards California first living in Colorado then San Francisco ...and then in Nepal in my early 30s. That is where I found my interest in alternative medicine and came back to start my career in the healing arts. Also, that is how I even came to know about Nepal and the many utterly amazing places and experiences one can have there in that country. From the mountains to the jungles...it is a fascinating place to visit. I have trekked extensively the Annapurna region and the Everest region and can direct the newcomer to Nepal to the best trek to suit your needs and desires.
I finally found my dream home in Sausalito, California with my husband Bennett King and our two dogs.
Life to me is about staying balanced, enjoying yourself and keeping faith of your own destiny... which in some unique way for you is to help and serve others. With that in mind and an open heart, one can have their hearts desires, do your work with full passion and joy and go to places you never ever imagined before. I can help you go to one very special place with memories that will stay with you forever. After all, the pull it has on me is was so strong right from the beginning that it never really let go of me. I came back home to America but Nepal remained my second home. Many deep personal changes happen to those that visit the hearts and homes of the people of Nepal and that is what happened to me. If you go I can help you to enjoy a fabulous unforgettable journey of your mind, body and spirit.
There comes a time in all of our lives when it is no longer about our dreams...its about our memories. So as long as you can have a dream you can make those cherished memories to have and to hold.
Namaste my friends....and thank you. Hope to hear from you.
All the best,
Kat
